West coast of Istria

Postby dterzolo on Wed Apr 05, 2006 7:55 pm

I am looking for information on the Town of Parenzo (from which my family is from) as we will be making a trip to Italy and the Istrian peninsula later this summer. We hope to visit the town as well as others on the Istrian peninsula.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thank you so much,

Dave

Hi Dave,

welcome to our forum. Parenzo = Porec and it is one the most beautiful places in Croatia.

Here some information from our forum about Porec:

A roman town, and later conquered by the Byzantines and Venetians, Poreč held an important harbour and is today one of the most intact towns of Istria and is worth an extended visit. Go for the Poreč museum and the Basilica of Euphrasius.

Poreč is a must for young people; this is definitely the best town if you are looking out for fun with hip Croats and many other tourists. To see and be seen is certainly true for Poreč. Head for places like Altercafé or Colonia, Comitium, Dvi Murve, Istra, Lapidarium, Peterokutna Kula, Pizzeria Dalí, Torre Rotunda or Ulixes. There is internet cafés like Cyberm@c in Grahalica 1 and the bus station is located just outside the core of the city, which is perfect for back packers.

For accommodation Poreč itself is mostly filled with package tourists in the summer, so young travellers should look out for campsites some thirty minutes far from the city in Zelena Laguna or Bijela Uvala, busses run 9 times daily from the bus station.

Poreč is a good location for watersports, there is a sailing school, bikes and scooters can be rented.

If you need some more info, just ask me, as I know Porec quite well.

Bye,

Filip
