Non-Croatian restaurants in Split

Postby Luluna on Sun Aug 20, 2006 9:25 pm

As much as we love Croatia, particularly Dalmatia, where food is undoubtedly good, we do find restaurant fare a little uninspiring.

Menus have plenty of choice but it is always the same choice and very little individuality between the different restaurants. We are probably spoilt here in Italy where over the last 20 years the menus have become much more interesting and we even have Indian and Chinese restaurants in our nearest city!

Can anyone recommend any extraordinary or ethnic restaurants in middle Dalmatia? Split/Brac being favourite spots.

Thank you!

I've found one non-Croat restaurant so far. Its mexican, but watered down to suit Croatian palates. The hottest thing on the menu (hot taco sauce) was in fact ketchup!

Any non-Croatian restaurants would not survive outside of the summer months, when there are no tourists!

How it was in Italy 20 years ago... BUT the young are willing to try new things and maybe it'll happen eventually. I guess we've got a long wait though!

Lucice at the Spinut harbour (northside of Marjan peninsula).

And there is a good restaurant at the ACI Marina as well. Not the ACI restaurant at the top of the cliff, but the one below. Restaurant Jugo.

They're not special ethnic restaurants but they do serve very good food!

Lucice is straightforward Croatian, lots of fish and excellent grilled meat. mainly open-air, great atmosphere.

Jugo is a bit more sophisticated/international, and serves excellent pizza as well.

In Kastela there are many restaurants, which serves also pizza and pasta. Kastela is around 20 km away from Split.

Restaurant "Intrada" in Kastel Novi and restaurant "Antonio" in Kastel Stair can I recommended.
