Buzet

General information

Already at the time of Venetian rule Buzet supplied military stations and the local population with potable water. Today the region of Buze-stina is the central area of the future Native Park of Istria. Exceptionally beautiful, almost intact nature and an abundance of cultural and historical monuments, together with wholesome, home-made food, exquisite local wines, folklore (ancient music playing - lamentations and dances - balun, legends of citadels) and pearls of small towns on conically shaped hills (Roc, Hum, Vrh and Sovinjak) are a real promised land for peaceful rest. The slopes of Cicarija feature a number of trails (access by car), where one can see does and deer but also bears! Thermal springs and a high quality sparkling wine bear witness to primordial beauty of this region. Inns in nearby Vrh offer the famous speciality - fuzi (kind of pasta) with truffles.

Many entertainment programs and events take place round the year: contest of harmony-singing groups of Istria and Kvarner (28th of March); music festival The Singing Buzestina (in April, Buzet - Roc - Sovinjak - Vrh); Buzet Days, including also a motor-car race (5th-7th of September).

BUZET, a town in the northern part of central Istria, located on a hill in the Mirna river valley, below Cicarija Mountain; elevation 153 m; population 506. Regional roads connect the town with the eastern and western coasts of Istria. Economy is based on farming, metal-working industry (engine parts) and wood-processing. A railway station is located in the immediate vicinity of the town.
