Supetar on the Island of Brac
The beauties of Supetar in the middle of Texas It may sound a bit strange, but it will soon be possible to see the town of Supetar of the central Dalmatian Island of Brac on the other side of the world – more exactly in the cove of Lake Stonebridge near the town McKinney in the American state of Texas. Namely, one American entrepreneur of Croatian origin had begun the construction of a replica of Supetar in the afore mentioned cove – which he believes will be even more popular than the famous Disneyland. The originator of the idea, who already owns the hotel company Svpetrvs in Supetar, fell in love with the island way of life and decided to copy it an offer Americans the opportunity to enjoy in the benefits of Mediterranean life, which on Brac, just like on other Croatian islands has been nurtured for thousands of years. And so a piece of the Mediterranean will move to Texas where on the cove of Lake Stonebridge will be constructed a small port, Riviera with restaurants, konoba (wine cellars), souvenir shops and cafes. On the very shore will also rise a real Dalmatian village with about fifty stone family homes and stone-paved narrow streets – which are a type of symbol of all Dalmatian towns. The houses will be stone three-storey houses with red roofs and green shutters on the windows, however unlike authentic Dalmatian houses, these in Texas will also have a pool – and will be an ideal place to live. Other than this, on the island in the middle of the lake will also be constructed a small chapel, a replica of the Split Sustipan which will be built of the well known Brac stone. And that’s not all – as everything in the settlement will be based on the Mediterranean way of life, there will be also be planted numerous autochthonous Mediterranean plants like lavender, rosemary, lemons and olives and to ensure everything looks like the original – only Croatian ingredients will be offered in the restaurants – Dalmatian wine, pršut (smoked ham), olive oil, Adriatic pilchards and other similar delicacies. In this way in about five years Americans will also be able to witness the beauties of Supetar on Brac, however, it must be noted that the original is nearly always more beautiful than the copy, especially since the original Supetar is actually located in its autochthonous surroundings.
