Pakovo Selo near Drniš

Living museum of traditional heritage

A group of young entrepreneurs from Drniš, a town located in the Šibenik hinterlands, have begun, not far from Pakovo Selo on 15 thousand unfertile kaarst land, the construction of a unique historicalethnographic tourist centre in which tourists will be shown the traditional manner of life of the local inhabitants as it once was. Namely, it is intended that at least 20 people from Pakovo Selo who are acquainted with old native skills, remember recipes of original native dishes, old village customs and secrets of long forgotten trades be employed here. Among other things, tourists will be able to enjoy in the skills of handmade spinning of wool and weaving, gathering of wild aromatic and medicinal herbs, in the work of old blacksmiths, carpenters, the music of guslari (players of a native folk fiddle), in the old skills of laying dry walls and covering of houses with stone tiles – in the way that houses were once built in this region. The centre will actually offer everything tied to this region, so that agricultural activities will also be presented – ploughing with farm animals, production of homemade smoked and cured meats and cheeses, the simple life of a shepherd with sheep – of which is made kaštradina – smoked sheep meat. Along with everything listed there will also be a lot of other surprises, like sewing of folk costumes, nurturing of folklore and much, much more. In actuality the entire centre will become a living museum in which tourists will be able to, in detail, get to know the way life was lived in this lively mountainous-village area in the hinterlands of the sea destinations of the Šibenik-Knin County.
