Čigoć is the village in which you can find more white storks living there than the people!!!! Therefore, ever since 1994, the village has been proclaimed the First European Stork Village. If you visit the village, you will notice that on almost every house there is white storks nests -in 45 active nests there can be found more than 200 storks, while there is only 120 residents in the village.
In 2003, the village received yet another important prize - the European Association for Flowers and the Environment awarded Čigoć the bronze Entente Florale plaque for an outstanding atmosphere and environment. Anyone who visit it indeed immediately notices the harmonious relationship between people, storks and nature of the area.
The Čigoć village is a part of Lonjsko polje Nature Park.
What to see in the village? Well, there are a lot what-to-do things. In the Educational Centre of the Nature Park you can closelly observe stortk´s behaviour, listen their communication and see parent-the young relationship. You can also visit ethnological exhibition of traditional tools and items related to the rural household in the last two centuries. To continue with the farmhouse tourism image, you can even have a taste at traditional food and drink. If you wish to spend some more quality time in Čigoć, there are pedestrian walks around the village that are excellent for taking walks and getting to know the village even more closely.
Finally, there is a Stok Day, the great celebration that is held on th elast Saturday in June in Čigoć. It includes cultural, recreational, entartainment and culinary events.
