Dubrovnik - New moorings for increasing number of floating hotels
In Dubrovnik recently was presented a Study on the selection of a location for moorings for cruisers navigating in the Dubrovnik aquatorium. Namely, an increasing number of luxury cruise ships sail into Dubrovnik every year and it has long become clear that the city needs new moorings because the old ones unfortunately cannot meet the demands of so many large ships. Subsequently the mooring located between the City of Dubrovnik and the small Island of Lokrum will soon be moved from the old 850 metres from the old city walls to a new 980 metres which will satisfy the necessary safety and ecological standards. The new mooring field of an area of 850,000 square metres and depth of 60 metres will be divided into two part of which the smaller and one closer to the City of Dubrovnik will be for anchoring of ships up to 150 metres in length, while on the other side of the moorings will be anchored the so called large floating hotels. Other than this, it is planned to in agreement with the conservatory in Lazaretima, the old Dubrovnik quarantine near the exit from the Old town, set up a pontoon pier for all passengers of cruisers. This would significantly alleviate the crowds in the city port and Pile – city gates of the Old town and would also bring back the spirit of old times when all visitors had to pass through such quarantine before entering the city. However, as such customs are no longer necessary, it would only serve to inspire the imagination of tourists of how things once were and instead they would be greeted by a set up virtual museum in which passengers could enjoy a tour of the city and could upon entering into the city choose everything they would like to see.
